Family Photography

Family Photography Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire & Moray

Family life rarely looks the way people think it should.

The house isn’t always tidy. The children aren’t always listening. Somebody usually has a stain on their clothes five minutes after getting dressed.

The truth is, that’s often the stuff you’ll laugh about and remember years later.

Family photography isn’t about creating an Instagram-perfect version of your family. It’s about holding onto who you are right now – the personalities, relationships and little things that make your family yours.

I offer relaxed family photography across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. Rather than spending the session asking everyone to look at the camera and smile, I’ll gently guide things and give playful prompts that help everyone relax and enjoy being together.

The photos come from what happens in between.

The laughter, the cuddles, the cheeky grins, the conversations, and all the little moments that already exist in your everyday life.

You don’t need to organise your children for me or worry about them “behaving perfectly”. You can focus on being together, and I’ll work around whatever the day brings.

What my family photography is really like

There isn’t a set way a family session is meant to go. Some feel calm, some feel loud, some feel a bit all over the place – and all of that is completely normal. The best family photos rarely come from everything going to plan. They come from people being themselves.

That means:

• children don’t need to sit still or “behave perfectly”

• your home doesn’t need to look Instagram-perfect

• you don’t need to know what to do or how to pose

We might be at home, outdoors, or somewhere your family loves spending time together. I’ll gently guide things when it helps, suggest simple ways to play or interact, and then let it unfold naturally. I’m not there to control the session – just to help everyone feel comfortable enough to be themselves.

The photos that come from this won’t just show what your family looked like.

They’ll show who you were.

The relationships, personalities, little habits, and ways of being together that make your family yours.

Family photography for every kind of family

Some are big, some are small. Some are loud, some are quiet. Some are made up of parents, step-parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, or the people who have simply become family along the way.

There isn’t a “right” way to be a family, and there isn’t a certain type of family that family photography is for.

You don’t need to fit a particular mould, and neither do your children.

Whether your family is blended, single-parent, same-sex, neurodivergent, or simply doesn’t look like the families you usually see in adverts, you’re welcome here.

Sessions are shaped around the people in them. That means working with the children involved, adapting to their needs, and letting them be themselves rather than expecting them to interact or behave in a particular way.

The goal isn’t to create photos that look like somebody else’s family.

It’s to create photos that feel like yours.

A session that fits your family

Not sure which one would suit your family best? I’ve written a short blog post comparing the different session types, if that’s helpful.

Mini Shoots

These are short, seasonal sessions, usually booked for quick updates, milestones, or as a gift. They're perfect for marking a particular stage, season, or occasion with a few updated photos.

Lifestyle Shoots

These are longer sessions, usually at home or somewhere familiar. We take things at your family's pace, leaving space for the conversations, laughter, routines and little moments that make your family yours.

Gift Cards

Gift cards make thoughtful gifts for birthdays, new parents, grandparents, or anyone who'd love updated family photos. They can be used towards any family photography session.
